New Town Rivulet Estuary Restoration
City of Hobart
The $2m New Town Rivulet Estuary Restoration project involved the removal of aged concrete lined batters, bulk excavation of contaminated soils, extensive landscaping including boulders, 45,000 native plants, walking paths and turfed areas. The project has significantly improved the ecological values and aesthetics of the area for the local community while ensuring flood risks were managed to protect private properties. The project required multiple approvals and management of stakeholders including Glenorchy City Council since the project straddled the municipal boundary.
