Goshawk Way and Kingston Wetlands
Kingborough Council
As part of Kingborough Councils ‘Transform Kingston’ project, Council proposed to extend Goshawk way to the Huon Highway and upgrade the existing stormwater system and wetlands. The works included:
Construction of the new extension to Goshawk Way
Reconstruction of the Huon Highway between Goshawk Way and John St including two new roundabouts
Construct a pedestrian underpass under the Huon Highway to provide connectivity between the new Kingston Park and the Wetlands walking tracks.
Draining and upgrading the wetlands with a new Gross Pollutant Trap and floating plants that treats the majority of stormwater draining from the catchment in the Kingston CBD.
Construction commenced in 2022 and concluded in 2023. Sugden & Gee were engaged as the Superintendent’s Representative and were responsible for the Contract Administration of the project. Our work included:
Pre award advice on scope reduction to accommodate budget constraints.
All general contract administration including, RFI’s, instructions, drawing changes, variations, payment claims, programming and EOT assessment.
Assistance with improving the design during construction – we worked closely with Council officers and the Contractor to implement several change including upgrading the roundabouts south bound to two lanes, changes to stormwater pipe depths as a cost savings and options investigations for underpass block construction.
The project was a success with Council managing to stretch its budget using cost savings to deliver both Goshawk Way and the wetlands upgrade.
